Why Choose HP-β-CD Instead of Native β-CD?

Native beta-cyclodextrin has relatively limited water solubility. Chemical modification can significantly change the physicochemical behavior of cyclodextrins.

HP-β-CD combines the familiar inclusion-complexation capability of the beta-cyclodextrin cavity with substantially improved aqueous solubility.

FDA public documents describe HPβCD as a pharmaceutical excipient and identify its use in drug formulations. For example, FDA review materials have documented HPβCD in injectable formulations and discussed its role in the formulation of poorly water-soluble drugs.

More recently, an FDA review document for a meloxicam product lists HPβCD at 15% w/v among the formulation excipients, demonstrating that HPβCD continues to appear in contemporary pharmaceutical product development.
