Types of Natural Cyclodextrins Available
Alpha-cyclodextrin
Alpha-cyclodextrin consists of 6 glucose units and is commonly derived from cornstarch. With its smaller cavity (about 4.7 angstroms), it is particularly effective at forming complexes with smaller organic molecules like flavors, fragrances, and some pharmaceuticals.
Beta-cyclodextrin
Beta-cyclodextrin, made up of 7 glucose units, is the most studied and widely used. Found in wide applications from pharmaceuticals to food and cosmetics.
Gamma-cyclodextrin
Gamma-cyclodextrin consists of 8 glucose units. Has the largest cavity among the commonly used natural cyclodextrins (about 8.3 angstroms).
Delta and Epsilon cyclodextrins
